I bought my first chickens this spring and have 12. One of the barred rocks seems to be a bit under the weather. It is awfully hot this week here in Central Florida but the others are all lively. Her tail is down and her eyes are not as open as the others. I just noted that she is also panting more than the others and at times seems to be trying to get something out of her mouth by opening her beak and shaming her head. I just now bought and put in the water some Duramycin-10.
Should I be doing anything else? Sheseems to be eating well and is in good weight.

Might just be to hot. You can put some crushed ice cubes in the water or in a dish and let them peck at it. Thats what my mom does in Texas. To bad they dont have meal worm flavored syrup then you could make them a yummy snow cone!

Thank you for your responses. The crop on this girl is empty so that is not the problem. ( Although I don't like it entirely empty. Now, I did look up Gape Worm and the symptoms do seem appropriate but they say the treatment of choice is Flubendazole. This is not sold in the USA as far as I can tell and the feed and grain store does not have it. All orders on line are from England. What can I treat gape worm with and where can I get it? Thanks for your help. I hate to loose this girl.

I would like to add that I do have 1% ivermectrin which I mix for use for Heart Worm preventative for my dogs. Can I use this for treatment of gape worm? If so, how much. I mix it with Propylene Glycol for my dogs.

They had the goat Flubendazole at the feed and grain but no one was able to tell me what to give the chicken. A 25 pound goat gets 0.6mls. How much would you give a chicken? Would you go by weight only? Would birds geta weaker dose?
