I have a 5 day old Lakenvelder chick that I received from the hatchery on Wednesday. Seemed OK til I checked them this morning.
He has had bad pasty butt(which I have been cleaning) since I got him.
He has been being fed medicated chick food and his bedding is pine shavings.
He seems to be straining to go poo and when he does, it is very stringy.
He won't lay down, but is weak and wobbly.
I have him in a seperate box and am giving him sugar water(there is food available also). He doesn't want to eat and I have to dip his beak to get him to drink.
My vet is out of town for a few days so I cannot get any help there-can anyone tell me what this could be and how do I treat it?
Thanks for any help and advice!
