Baby chick hatched 2 days ago....found it yesterday laying on the ground outside of the coop with a bloody spot on its head and thought it was dead. Brought it inside under a heat lamp and last night it was walking around and ate a little. Today this is how it's acting. It bobbles it's head when it tries to pick it up, when it tries to stand it falls backwards and ends up on its back. Not eating, sleeping a lot, can't seem to stand and barely peeps. Any ideas whats wrong? I have tried the baby vitamins but it won't drink anything. Please help if you can!!

The chick I found this morning half froze is doing similar things, only we found a hematoma in her neck. Have you checked for neuro damage? Don't know how to explain to do it. I know that "Lucky" might not survive, so I'm curious to see what the experts say because my chick is doing similiar things, only her neck is crooked.

I may have figured somthing out. I have a poultry health book and the closest thing I cood Find is a rare disease called Aspergillosis. According to my book, its symptoms include Gasping, sleepiness, swollen eyes, yellow cheesey material in eye, loss of appetite, sometimes nasal discharge, Diahrea, twisted neck, paralysis, convulsions and death. The mortality rate is 10% and it is most common in birds under 3 weeks old. Prevention: do not hatch eggs with cracked or poor shells, CLEAN the incubators and brooders OFTEN and clean the feeders and waterers daily. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this disease, only preventions. Hope this helps... sorry, im sure your bird will be fine though

I really have no idea how to treat gasping... she may have trouble breathing... Have you checked down her throat? is there some thin lodged in there? I once had a Japanese bantam cockerel who chocked on his feed... he could not stand up and he could not keep his neck up... He gasped constantly and we took a turkey baster and sucked out the food and squirted tons of water to make the feed in his throat soggy... he was better afterwards but chocked on his feed again in the night... (rest in peace Smokey

The gasping doesn't seem very bad and I don't think anything is in his throat. I am worried that since he/she is so young and not eating maybe it's weak. Last night it was fine, it was walking around but not as fast and spry as the other chicks. I tried to clean the head wound a little. I am not sure what happened today to make the chick worse

He may have curled toe paralysis... when they have this, they can't bend their toes on there own. since they cant walk,, they cant get to their food or water so they get very weak, very fast. try putting food right in front of him and try dipping his beak in water
