Sick Baby- How do you clean her -in PAIN?

Are you not feeding them poultry feed, or layer feed or? Scratch is not nutritionally complete - its like candy for a chicken.

Yes I know gross..but I put enough disinfectant I think to kill a horse there. I just didn't know where else to clean her.
She is walking better today but still is having really bad movements-all liquid. I don't know what to do to help her. She is drinking water today and seems fine other than her movements. I know she is sick but HELP.

It's hard to know what's going on here. Has she ever been wormed?

More yogurt and/or probiotic powder sprinkled on her food....
You could try making some oatmeal and mixing in some layer food and sprinkling in a bit of Avia Charge 2000 when it cools. Mine don't like it but I read on BYC that many do like oatmeal. I can get them to eat a scrambled egg with some oats mixed in. Then I add some crushed layer food and sprinkle a bit of Avia Charge 2000 in when it cools.

Goal here is getting some really good nutrition into her while trying to sort out what is wrong.

Avia Charge 2000 in water (one place you can get it is on line through McMurray Hatchery). It has nutrients in it that she may need. I would hurry and order today if you don't already have it.

Is her weight good?

I'm not going to read through all the posts to see if it was suggested, but I heard using oil, like olive oil to clean the area will help ease the goo off her bottom. I haven't had the issue though to know for sure. I can see how it might help.

Good luck

FWIW, a really good way of putting a 'handle' on a chicken, so you can restrain and hold it for cleaning its butt or whatever, is to use an man's sleeveless undershirt. Ideally either use an old one retired to the rag box or do not tell the current owner where his undershirt was before you washed it <vbg>

Lay it flat and use it like a piece of cloth (the advantage of the undershirt is that it is nice and stretchy, but not bulky at all). Just wrap it around the chicken's body like a sling, spread out as wide as possible, from just in front of legs to under the chicken's neck, and hold the ends firmly together over the chicken's back as a 'handle'. It stays pretty well , esp. once the chicken gets wet, as long as you hold it *snugly*.

I hope you can figure out what her problem is and hope she starts feeling better soon,

Pat

Babygirls...you didn't reply to Wildsky's post...

you must stop feeding them scratch and get some good layer feed.
they only need a hand full of scratch as a treat.
cut back on any kitchen scraps
cut WAY back on the wild bird seed..it really isn't good for them.
they need protein and proper nutrients.

as other poster suggested..mix up some plain active culture yogurt..a little oatmeal cooked with water, chopped cooked egg, and layer feed.
some AviaCharge as suggested, or poultry vitamins till you can get it.
some here recommend Polyvisol baby vitamins..just 1 or 2 drops on beak.

then you can go to plain layer feed, with the mix offered once a week or so.

do you offer oyster shell?

their diet is most likely the cause of the loose droppings.
if, after the diet has been corrected for at least 2-3 weeks, and the droppings are still loose..
they might need to be wormed.
but fix the diet first and see how they do..

Thanks to all who have responded. I will absolutely change their diet. I have 2 feeders; one that has layer and the other has scratch. I will replace the scratch with layer tomorrow. I will also use the AviaCharge.
We do give them oyster shell regularly.

I will give you an update in 2 weeks.

Thank you soooo very much! It is greatly appreciated.
