Hi all. New to posting here but I've been visiting these forums for about a year now.
I work at a feed store. Of course it's that time of year for chicks and ducks. We got a bunch of mallards in. I noticed one couldn't walk right so I took it home to see what I could do to help.
In a nutshell, the little guy just can't seem to keep his balance. His head wobbles back and forth. He falls over on his back often. Most the time he can right himself but many times I have to help him out.
I did some research (a lot of it here in these forums) and many suggested the duck might be lacking niacin. I got the supplement to go in water but it doesn't seem to be helping at all.
We're considering making him a little chair to see if that will help him get better but I'm not sure what to make yet. More research needed.
My son made a video of him and put it on youtube. It can be found here:
The little guy has such a huge will to survive. If you hold him by the food, he eats very well. If you hold him near the water he drinks and likes to play in it. When you hold him he snuggles down in your hand to sleep. Call me a softie, but I really wanna help this guy and would appreciate any suggestions, advice, etc.
If he survives, I"m planning on making him a little ducky wheelchair with wheels on it. (I know...crazy!)
