i bought two silkies from alive meat market to keep as pets. One of them is doing very well and wandering around the yard for the first time and the other is doing fine but looking a little droopy. I ordered some vitamin and mite stuff for hem but it is coming in a few days, so is their any thing i can give them right now to get them moving a bit more. They keep closing their eyes like the are sleeping but its the middle of the day, is this normal. Ive heard you can give them gatorade to give them a boost is this true, and what about adding some sugar to their water it this also true. Their wing feathers are all tattered and they are not able to fly on the roost when the molt will they be able to? And their poop is brown and soft with a bit of white around it, what does this mean? They have not been vaccinated for any thing, should i give them some vaccines and of what?

The good news first: Their poops sound pretty normal, unless they're absolutely runny. And as for flying, well, I'm not a silky expert, but I don't think they fly much at the best of times!

Gatorade might help. A couple of tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in their water would be a good thing. A head of cabbage, cut in half and hung in their pen or set, cut side up, in a bowl, might perk them up. Meal worms might get them going.

A modest little bit of sevin dust ruffled through their feathers is not dangerous, and if they're really loaded with mites it would be a good thing to get them off.

Caution! Don't haul off and feed them a ton of scratch feed! A complete ration of crumbles would be better. Scratch feed is okay for a little treat, but it's like giving a kid a ton of candy at Halloween.

Good luck! It's been my experience with rescues that they know they've been rescued, and they usually make great pets!

Have you checked them for mites? Mites can make them sick very fast. You can get some of the dog flea and tick spray and that will get rid of the mites, while your waiting on your Poultry Mite Dust.

Silkies really do not fly and they do not roost. They should not be standing around looking droopy. Scramble or boil them some eggs. You can also make them some oatmeal with peanut butter. That will give them alot of protein.
