Hi Everyone,
I have 7 turkeys. I had 8, but one of my heritage bronze died after about 2 weeks. The grain store I buy my chicks from said that most of the heritage didn't look to healthy when they arrived from the hatchery, so I figured that was what happened to that one. My turkeys are 8 weeks old and have been outside for a month in my Turkey coop.
6 of the 7, all the broad breasted whites but not the other heritage have what looked like blood on their beak right where the beak meets the head. This particular group has been very aggressive. Compared to the 5 I had last year. When they were in the brooder, they kept pecking each other a lot, so I trimmed back the beaks just a little with some finger nail clippers. I thought they were bleeding from still pecking each other, but now it looks more like it is eating away at the beak, like it is some disease or fungus.
They do free range on the days I am home to keep away the fox in our area, but some days are inside all day. And for a couple weeks, there was one Momma hen and her little chick she hatched in the same pen. I know I have read to keep them separated, and they are now, but I needed to put mom in there in a large dog kennel with her baby since my other RIR hens were trying to kill her baby.
What do you think? Should I give them some medicine or is it just from pecking at each other.
Thanks!!!!
