Sick Bob White quail please help!!!

Hello, my bob white quail hen is really sick she has been sneezing and coughing and shes puffed up. yesterday she was eating and drinking but today she is really bad! I have tried cayenne pepper and Bird Sulfa and nothing has helped!can you please help I am really worried and I'm thinking of putting her down and I really don't want to, she is my favorite quail!!!

Sounds like Quail Bronchitis from you're description of the symptoms. Along with the coughing, sneezing, puffed up appearance, is she raling, or have conjunctivitis? Also, are her droppings loose, watery?....if so, than I would suspect quail bronchitis.

There is no specific treatment, about all that is recommended is raising the temperature in the enclosure, about 3 to 5°F.
Stringent biosecurity protocols are a must with quail. If she isn't isolated from the rest of your birds, I would recommend doing so, quail bronchitis is highly contagious. In young birds mortality is often very high, older birds have a better survival rate but not much....quail bronchitis is usually 'self-limiting', meaning that it will eventually 'run it's course'.

Birds that survive, acquire an immunity to the disease. The best treatment is prevention, strict sanitation, no over crowding, clean fresh water and feed, and clean bedding if they are chicks or young juveniles.
