sick call duck

Well, we've had 4 calls. And he's the only one to survive. I'll fight to my death, to keep him alive. When we got him, we had him, and 2 females. We got them at 6 days old. Daphne, passed at 6 weeks from a seizure in the swimming pool :( and pumpkin, the day before getting their wings clipped, flew head first, off my husband's shoulder, into the patio door. She had a serious brain injury and passed. Then poor Abby was alone, so we called the breeder again (5 hours from our home) and went and got a female from him, that was from the same brood Abby was. She had been beaten up by chickens pretty bad, but we got her healthy. But she never took to living in the house. So she went out with the Cayuga's, and loved it. Once a day she'd come in for a bath with Abby. One day, they decided to get their freak on.... Abby rode her around like a seadoo and drowned her (in Hubby's care....again....) It was funny.... But not... DEATH BY SEX what a way to go Lol. So we decided no more friends for Abby. He's happy with just us. He's already had so much loss, no need to risk it again. Then my hubby moved for work and couldn't take him with: ( Abby was heartbroken. But every time hubby came home Abby was like "wait.... You're ALIVE!!!" and it was the cutest thing with him running around everywhere and such. But yes, he's part of my family. I'd drive to the end of the world for him.

Sorry that's so long haha

Sounds to me like Hubby Dearest can't be trusted to take care of the duckies. :/ Is Abs okay on his own? My Wobbles is also a lone house Call Duck, but she was raised solo from hatch so she's pretty well-adjusted.

May I ask where you live? I've got one of the best Call breeders in the country in my phone, he and I have bonded over the years over our favorite duck breed. ^^ If you're on the West Coast I can probably get you some really good birds.

He's better now...although he's sometimes almost as bad with our kids. They were our first ducks ever, we didn't know much and had no where to turn to... House ducks AREN'T a thing here. We live in a city and people are shocked at our yard ducks haha. And I'm in Canada haha. Really slim pickings yup here for duck breeders. And Abby's really good. He's semi imprinted. I guess. Since he was 6 days old when we got him. He likes to talk to other ducks.... But he'd rather be with people. I have s different job now and only work overnights on the weekend, so I'm home with him always:) it makes it better

That's awesome! Actually, where are you in Alberta? I'm in Seattle, so next year when breeding season rolls back around I could deliver you a lovely new bird, if you want one! Dan Jerome is a super sweet guy, I'm sure he'd be happy to give you a duckling. It's about a six hour drive from here to Calgary. If you're close to the border he could probably ship eggs there, too.

Saw a vet here in town today...an expensive trip later....next time I'm driving home...haha it'll cost less. But he's okay :) he had some sort of build up in his sinuses, but the acv is doing a great job clearing it up,so we don't need to do anything else. And can take away the acv in about a week :D

Oh, thank goodness! I hope there's nothing but improvement from here on in. We're all pulling for the little guy. <3
