Hi all! First post ever under sad circumstances.
My 1.5 year old Black Austrolorp is sick and I have no idea what it could be. This is my first flock and we hadn't experienced any losses until a chicken- the prettiest- suddenly died two month ago. We suspect she may have been egg bound, but there were no signs I noticed until her death. Then a raccoon broke into the coop and killed a hen two weeks ago.
Now Geraldine- the prom queen chicken, as we call her- is sick. She was fine one day, then the next she was inside the coop when the rest of the girls went out to forage. She was laying on her side, which is unusual, and wouldn't respond. We took her inside where it was warm and gave her her own food and water dish with some feed and her favorite snacks- apples and tomatoes. This perked her back up slightly for a few hours but she hasn't improved much since. She is sitting on her haunches and can move herself slightly but seems very weak.
Does anyone have any ideas?
