I have a chicken that has had a poopie butt for a while. Last night she was really starting to reak so we gave her a bath (just the poopie part). I inspected her skin for any sign of anything and it looked ok so we put her up on the perch, as she had been on the coop floor. Today she is worse, her tail is down and she is kinda trying to eat "between her feet" she seems really wobbly and occasionally tries to right herself using her wing. She is reminding me of an owl, kind of all hunched over and her tail is down. I wonder if I should just cull her from my flock (we're down to only three) the other 2 girls seem happy and healthy. Should I leave her alone and let nature take its course? I'm wondering if its something contagious. She doesnt look good. She looked excited when I put our some "treat" but seemed to have too hard of a time trying to balance herself to eat it. The tail doesnt go up, when the head goes down. I'm so at a loss, please advise! The advice that I have gotten off this website has been just at good as my vet if not better!

I am so sorry you are having to deal with a sick hen right now.

How old/young is she?
When is the last time she laid an egg?

She may be laying internally, which is not good.

Have you ever had your flocks poop tested for worm loads?

I'm really not sure how old she is. I have had poop tested before and it was clear of everything. I havent had this hen's poop tested recently, but it is watery. How would I know if she is laying internally? And what would I do about it? I think all the girls are old, I only get an egg once in a while, and the two girls lay the same color egg so I never really know who did it!
Thanks for responding! This group is the best.

Unfortunately laying internally isn't something that can be "fixed."

Feel her belly area...if it feels full...full of liquid or full or hardness would be a sign.

Ok, she does feel a little "bigger" than the other two. I had to give everyone a feel so I would know what normal feels like. It's not hard, but its the same feel as the normal two, only a bit bigger. In between the legs and kinda behind also. Why does this internal laying happen? Is there something I can do to prevent it? I hate to see them like this. She must be in bad shape as she didnt grump too much about me handeling her.
