I recently had a skunk in my coop and one of my 5yr old Red Sexton hens hasn't been right since. I got rid of the skunk but since then she has been very disoriented and not eating. She would find one spot in the yard and stay there all day. I've brought her inside. She will only eat or drink if I put it right in her face. If I'm 3 or 4 inches away from her she can't seem to find it.. she did eat half a cantaloupe one day, only because she sat down right in front of it and it was close. When she does eat her stool come out normal, but if she hasn't eaten a lot naturally I assume it's very runny and an array of different colors. Unfortunately I can only attend to her at lunch time and when I get off. It has been about 4 days now and I'm not seeing much improvement. I've read that a skunks spray can be temporarily blinding, so I've thought she should be better by now. I wipe her face and eyes with a microfiber towel with a bowl of water and a few cans of apple cider vinegar... Any suggestions would be great help. The rest of my chickens are mostly fine but I did get a soft shell egg the other day. I don't know if it's just getting close to their time, or skunk related, or something else....

Did the skunk actually spray? At 5 years your chicken is getting old. Have you felt her chest to see how thin she is?

Very absolute the skunk sprayed... Fiirst few days after noticing her difference I could only feel grain in her chest which normally is fairly fluid,,I know because I pick her up the most.. now she is very thin and all I feel is bone now

Caps of vinegar*

Skunk spray can cause problems in dogs that affects their hemoglobin. I'm not sure if it's the same in birds. Not sure what you can do at this point if it has to do with being sprayed except wait and see if she improves.

Are her eyes cloudy and do they respond to light? I probably wouldn't wipe near her eyes with vinegar. I'd probably use a saline solution used for eyes.
