SICK chicken AGAIN with coccidia???

Quote:
oocysts unfortunately are not affected by most disinfectants...not even bleach.
Quaternary ammonia will kill them but also HEAT. (Please DO clean your coop but use an ammonia afterwards instead of the other disinfectants which will not work on oocysts) >>>IMPORTANT: keep your birds WELL away from the coop while using ammonia as the fumes are toxic to them (so are the fumes from bleach for that matter)
If it were me (and if the size of your fenced in run allows) I would scrape off the top layer (dispose of this) and burn the run with a torch as I am unsure if the lime treatment is effective or not for cocci oocysts

ok, will do. Thanks for the help. I called the chicken doctor, and he basically said that every 4-5 weeks I need to treat for coccidia (as living in fl its worse I guess) and ulternate between sulmet, and amprolium...do any of you guys do this?

So..dlhunicorn..where do I get a torch to burn the sand?

If you do not have a soldering torch or an electric paint burner (I do not know which one you would prefer to use) then perhaps you could rent one? Again I think it is best if you discard the top layer (as much as possible) the burn with either a torch or a paint burner...) This is one of the reasons I have my run paved...once something gets in the ground it is so very difficult to get out (and it is easier to chemically sanitize and burn a cement paver)
