I am new to BYC and to chickens. I inherited some of my flock when I bought the house. A friend recommended I join. I'm hoping for some help. One of my chickens has bumps between it's toes. They aren't black, but are painful for her. After looking on line, I think it's Bumble foot. I have separated her from the other chickens, put an antibiotic in her water, and I'm trying to keep her as comfy as possible. Sadly, she seems to be getting worse by the day. She isn't eating or drinking much at all. She's very lethargic and just sits. I feel terrible for her. Any suggestions? I'm thinking of ending her misery but I'd MUCH prefer to help her.😢

Just to add, I have never had bumblefoot mean the hen doesn't eat or drink much. How old is this hen? She might be elderly and at the end of her life anyway. Or have a disease.

Bumble foot is easily treatable! Don’t even think of euthanasia yet. Have you tried anything?

As far as I was told, this chicken should be about 2 1/2 -3 years old. She was still laying up until last week.

I've been giving her antibiotics. The ONLY reason I'm even thinking of euthanasia is because of her state of being. She is literally just laying there with her eyes closed most of the time. She will drink water when I put it to her beak, but doesn't seem to be going after water on her own. She doesn't eat much. She'll eat hearty bread and some meal worms, but other than that, nothing. Not even veggies and usually those are her favorite! She's been like this for just over a week now and it's breaking my heart.

Then it is unlikely to be age unless the hen is a hybrid egg laying machine. They can pop their clogs this young. Can you post some pics of the hen and her feet.

Have you felt between her pelvis? She may be egg bound. See if you can feel an egg stuck there.

Is it very hot where you are? She may have a bit of heatstroke. Keep her cool, give her water through an oral syringe if you have to.

Just thinking of ideas. I think the lethargy and not eating/drinking is a bigger problem than her feet.

Well, there are other treatments....
Idk, I understand now. You may be right...

It is a bit drastic to euthanize just for sore feet, unless there is something else wrong with her. It is fairly easy to treat bumblefoot yourself. It is a bit gross but quick and easy.

I'm willing to do gross. That's not my concern. I'm not thinking about euthanizing her because of sore feet. I agree that would be quite drastic. I'm very concerned about her state of being. She's not moving much, eating or drinking, and is VERY lethargic.
