Looking for advice for our lethargic silver laced wyandotte. This morning we noticed that she is looking bloated and when she walks, she sort of waddles. She didn't run across the yard like she normally does. She has not laid an egg in quite a while - a month maybe. She is 2 years old. The rest of the flock slowed their laying down this summer, but the rest (3 others) are laying consistently now. Her vent was a little messy and red. We gave her a warm bath and cleaned her off. I also felt in her vent to see if she was egg-bound. She did have some clear liquid discharge from her vent. It doesn't exactly resemble gleet. The bloating part threw us off a bit too. Any other advice that you may have that we can do to make her comfortable or what it could possibly be? We plan to bring her to the vet tomorrow.
Thank you so much for any advice.

So sorry your bird is sick. I was thinking egg bound too from what you wrote. The warm bath and checking inside was a good idea. Hows her crop? Does her breath stink? Is she eating or drinking? Do you offer grit?

Sorry she's not well. If you're going to the vet then the only advice I can add is make sure she spends the night comfortable. You may want to isolate her tonight and keep her in a crate overnight with food/water. And something to roost on, a chunk of 2x4 laid on the floor works in a pinch, or she may just snuggle in a corner.

Thank you for responding Ninjasquirrel. Her crop is a normal red color. I did not check her breath, what would that indicate? Yes, she is drinking normal, unsure of her eating.

Foul smelling breath is usually an indication of sour crop which is highly treatable. I just want to make sure we have touched all bases. The redness on the vent you indicated makes me worry you could have an ecoli build up outside her body. This occurs when feces accumulate in the area. This can be treated with antibiotics. I would seperate her regardless because you do not want to eat her eggs if she is on them. I hope the vet can give you a better answer

Ok, I understand. THank you, Any thoughts on the bloating?
Thats why i thought possible sour crop. However since she hasnt layed in a while it could even be an infection of the oviduct. You are making the right decision to bring her to the vet. The vet can advise you on the proper antibiotic and dosage
