Hi I am so hoping someone can help me with my Rhode Island Red Greta. She is two years old and up until about a week ago healthy. I did notice that she had droppings on her butt but since she was otherwise normal I didn't think much of it. Figured she might not squatting like the other girls to get the poop clear of her butt feathers. I'm guessing that was maybe going on for like a month. About 6 days ago I noticed she seemed not her self so I bathed her butt to remove the droppings and to check it out. Skin was not red and there was not irritation. Vent looked normal. So far after her bath no more droppings stuck to her butt. But she is progressively getting worse. Her symptoms are lethargy. She will go out with my 3 other hens and walk and randomly peck at things but not scratch. Will not run. Sometimes just stays at the coop while the others forage. She still roasts at night though. She will also randomly sit on the ground and close her eyes which is definitely not normal. She just seems like she has no energy. She has little appetite. I can get her to peck at some eggs and live meal worms but that is about it. Have seen her drink. Other chickens are not picking on her. She has no mites or louse that I can spot (checked near the vent). Eyes and nose are clear of discharge. Comb seems paler than my other Rhode Island Reds and she is not laying. What I have also noticed is she is stretching her neck out and opening her mouth in which looks like a chicken yawn. Prior to seeing this I thought maybe it was coccidiosis due to the droppings stuck to her butt. They have all been getting 1 teaspoon per half gallon of water in the waterers. Today will be the 5th day of treatment with Corid. When I noticed the yawning I went and got Safeguard equine paste (25 gram 10%) as that was all Tractor Supply had. I give them all a pea size amount on a piece of bread. She has had this for three days now but the yawning is getting more frequent. Isn't Safeguard supposed to be effective for gape worms? Wouldn't she be showing improvement by now if that is what she actually has? Any other reasons what might be wrong with her. I also noticed that she will do a head shake after the yawn. I have check her droppings when I see her actually poop and I can see no worms in it.
