That will work.
It is Pyrethrins. Permethrin is basically the "synthetic" version of Pyrethrin. So, you did actually use something similar to what was recommended

That big honkin' jug of concentrate that @Tonyroo posted might just last a lifetime! I have a small bottle of concentrate that I bought about 5 years ago (probably for $5 back then, it's now $9). It makes gallons and gallons of spray, I think I have 1/2 bottle left. Twice year I do a perimeter spray of the outside and inside of my coops/runs (old rough cut oak). So it lasts a long long time.

I am so sorry for your loss and for dealing with a sick hen. If you think it's mites, you should start there.

I use the permethrin concentrate. Costs $9 @ tsc and that one bottle has lasted me years. It will get rid of them quickly. Just follow the directions.
