I have 2 Rhode Island Red Chickens, Cajun and Tikka. Tikka is the noisiest and has the biggest personality, she is also very stubborn. That is why when she did not come out of the coop yesterday when it was raining I thought nothing of it. However, when she did not come out of the coop this morning and it was dry I knew something was up. I opened both doors and found her standing in the nesting box, eyes barely open. She did not make a sound, which for Tikka is very strange indeed. I called on my boyfriend as I had to go to work and he reported back that he could not get her to eat or drink and that she has diarrhoea.
My birds are mostly free range, but we always make sure that they have access to layers pellets, fresh water and grit.
I won't be able to get home for the next 7.5 hours due to my job, I am hoping that she is still alive when I get home. I know that it is very hard to diagnose what is wrong without physically examining her, but does this sound like she is egg bound? I haven't had an egg from either of them for a while and a few have been shell-less.
I am really worried about her.
Thank you in advance.
