Sick chicken please help!!

Hi, I have a sick Aracauna x hen. She is about 6 months old and just started laying, however, the past few days she has been looking a bit tired. Her poop is dark black, she is closing one eye and it appears to have some puss in the corner of it. We thought she was egg bound, but she has been laying the past few days. Today, one of the eggs I collected had a green tinge and light grey spots around it. I am aware that Aracaunas lay blue eggs, however this one lays light brown eggs because she isn’t purebred. This egg I found didn’t look like a normal egg she would lay. I assumed that she laid it because none of my other chickens are sick. What could be wrong? She may possibly have worms, or something else?

Thanks, it looks similar to those pictures but definitely not as bad. She does look sick as well as she isn’t eating and drinking much.

My understanding is that yellow oozing from eyes or nose is an infection. Anyway you could get some antibiotics for her? I’ll look for some info.

Thank you I will see what I can get. The ooze looks like it’s mostly gone, but her eye looks very swollen so it is probably an infection.

You’re welcome! maybe a good rinse with saline and then apply regular neosporin or Vetericyn would help her eye too. Im actually surprised chix don’t have more eye problems the way they go through life digging in everything and rolling in dirt. Hope your little hen gets well.
