one of my 5 month old Barred Rocks is very sick. She has barely eaten for 3 days, is listless and doing white runny poops. She laid an egg 2 days ago but nothing since. Her crop feels fine but empty. I tried feeding her scrambled egg, porridge, crumbles, yoghurt but she isnt interested. My other 5 chickens are fine. I have separated her from the rest. She is such a sweet natured hen and i am very worried

my barred rock just passed away from this exact illness this past monday.
i had her comforatble in the house for over a week, she ended up getting worse.. some days i thought she would pull thru.

have you tried to see if shes egg bound? youll give her a warm bathe for 20 minutes. theres some threads here on the webiste that will help you.
sorry and good luck.

also have you given her any medication?

hi andrea
did you find out what was wrong with your girl?
I dont think she's egg bound as she laid an egg a couple of days ago and she'd become ill before then.
I'm at a loss to know what to do. I lost my favourite bantam about 5 weeks ago from somethink similar and fear this Barred Rock wont survive much longer.
I cant find an exact match on the poop page ...

Hi
My name is James im new here.
I had 2 barred Rocks die there poop was same as in your picture give them sulmet 5days its coccidiosis and give it to the entire flock clean out coop the bacteria live in the poop it is caused by mites. so dust them in 7 I did this and it works I was able to save 3 Barred Rocks which thios Bacteria seems to take to Barread Rocks the Hardest.

hi James.
I was thinking it might be Coccidiosis but thought she was too old for it and that there would be lots of blood visible in her poop. Anyway since your post I've started them all on Sulmet, so lets she what happens ...

There's lots of posts about the lethargic, non-specific symptom, chicken is sick, etc etc. Seems like there isn't a good answer either. Try answering the following questions:

I'll add a couple links to diseases.

Glad you are trying the Sulmet. I think it can be hard on the guts, so you might want to try probiotics with it. It's a good idea to seperate and keep warm. Good luck

I wanted to give you an update on my sick Barred Rock. She survived! A couple of people, James for one, suggested she had coccidiosis, and although I wasnt convinced it was this, I went ahead and started her on sulmet. I didnt have high hopes as she hadnt eaten for at least 6 days by this stage and had stop drinking. I resorted to administering sulmet plus water with a syringe and within 4 days she was back to her old self. Thank you everyone. I had just about given up hope, and had even gone as far as digging a grave for her.

She hasnt laid an egg yet but I am hopeful that will come eventually. I have just spent 2 hours cleaning the coop - i dont want any more outbreaks

thanks all

Sophie
