I am very sorry for your loss. I would suspect that she was ill, and they pecked her because they sensed that she was sick. It would have been good to have gotten a necropsy by your state vet to know if she could have had something contagious, such as Mareks disease. I don’t know if you could retrieve the body, but do take down the information on how to contact your state vet to get a necropsy if it should happen to another.
