Sick chicken - Thelma's drunk :( *not actually drunk but looks like it

x2
pips&peeps :

She's gasping for air and it is probably a secondary infection to mareks. She looks like she is on her way out, sorry.

I'm really sorry, but I have to agree with Marek's, though botulism does have similiar symptoms. I had a hen with Marek's last winter. Very hard to watch. I got her, plus three other hens from a private party, and didn't really know much about Marek's then. I highly doubt they had been vaccinated. That was a year ago this Halloween, and none of my other hens have come down with it. It depends on the chicken. Some seem to be more resistant to it. Just know that Marek's is everywhere, and if that is what your hen has, your property definitely has it. It stinks, trust me. No letting a mama hatch out babies on her own here.

It was recommended to me by my avian vet to only purchase Marek's vaccinated chicks from now on. (or hatch my own in an incubator, and purchase the vaccine. That would be a pain, since once mixed, the vaccine is only good for an hour. Not too many chicks hatch within an hour of each other.) Not sure if this will help, but I found this thread on treating Marek's the other day, while I was researching sometheng else. It is interesting to say the least. I honestly don't think Marek's disease can be cured, but some of these folks had good luck reversing the symptoms

Thelma made it through the night...she ate a good amount of layer crumbles this morning. I gave her water with a syringe. She's squwaking every once in awhile. I don't think she likes being away from her friends and in a box in my basement but I feel it's best to keep her away from the others. I took her out this morning to give her water and she promptly pooped all over my pants.

She's still gaping but not as pronounced as in the video...she's not stretching her neck any more when she does it. She just opens her mouth wide and takes a breath. I wish I could know for sure if she's in pain or not. I found a link to using Vitamin B for leg paralysis but I don't know if it's something that would work on her or not. I don't want her to suffer but I don't want to cull her if not necessary either.
