This bantam chicken has been acting listless for a week or so. I found a puddle of what appeared to be an egg white with some light pink substance near it ( not sure if it was from her or not) near where she was roosting in the coop last night. This morning I found her perched, with light colored liquidy poop covering her back end. I took her inside to rinse her hibd end with warm water, and a papery thing was trailing out of her vent area. I put antibiotic ointment on it, put her inside in a cage with food, water, and a friend for now, as it is close to 0 degrees F out there right now. What is this...is it vent prolapse? Is there something I can put on it? Thanks

Is it possible for you to get a clearer picture of the vent, and what's hanging out? If someone can hold her and hold her tail up, it would be helpful. It may be a malformed egg/shell that she is having difficulty passing, need to see it better to see if there is prolapse as well. Do you have any calcium on hand? Calcium citrate +D (Citrical or generic equivalent) 400-600 mg, once a day. Just put the pill or capsule into her beak and push back a little and she'll swallow it, don't worry about size, she can swallow it. That will help with contractions to help her expel anything she's having trouble with. If there is tissue coming out (prolapsed) it needs to be kept moist, you can use vaseline or honey to coat it, just keep it from drying out. If there is egg material hanging out, then once that is expelled the prolapse may go in on it's own.
How old is she and has she had any laying issues before?
