Poor girlView attachment 1732391 I have a 6 year old Easter Egger with a cross beak. I force fed her for a few years and she eventually learned to eat wet mash on her own. The last few days she has not been eating. She is already underweight because she can only eat 2 times a day when I’m home to feed her. I decided to check her out Monday and found she had lice. I dusted her and the rest of the flock and have began force feeding her again. Is there anything else I can do to help her build up some strength? She is walking around ok but can’t jump onto the roost, she doesn’t have enough energy. She is drinking ok too but has had watery stool. Thanks for any advice!
No she isn’t laying and hasn’t for awhile. I did check and don’t feel an egg. I used permethrin garden and poultry dust. I have used this before. She hasn’t been wormed in about a year and a half. Yes her crop is empty in the morning. She’s a little perkier today but still not feeling well. I’ve been feeding small amounts several times a day. She gets tired of the force feeding after awhile and fights it, so I put her back in the run and try again a couple hours later.Poor girl
Her age may be catching up to her.
Does she still lay eggs?
Have you checked her crop to make sure it's empty in the morning before eating/drinking?
Even if she's not laying, I would feel the abdomen for any bloat or swelling - she may have a reproductive problem.
What did you use to treat the lice?
Have you ever wormed her?
I would try to continue to get fluids and food into her, see how it goes.
