Hi there, I have a lethargic chicken, a Rhode Island Red, which is not eating or drinking. But is leaving a greenish Diarrhea with a white opate. I don't know what could be the cause ? Its started last week with the ultra-hot weather in the UK, whilst it had shade and cool water to walk on, it has had some effect or maybe something it ate. We have 2 of these birds and the partner is perfectly fine.

If you have some suggestions, it would be really good to hear.

Welcome To BYC

Can you post photos of the hen and her poop?
How old is she?
When was her last egg?

Check her over for lice/mites, see that her crop is emptying overnight. Get a fecal float to see if worms are part of the problem.

Very good photo best she has been today.
Poop hard to get small & vanishes quick.
Last egg a week ago when it was boiling here in UK.

She just been wormed 3 weeks ago as we went on holidays & she went Hennels 7 days. She was fine when came back.

Crop feels very empty as taking hardly anything on. I not optimistic.

What did you deworm her with?

I'd re-check to see that her crop is completely emptying overnight.
See that she's drinking and eating well.

Have you noticed if she's starting to molt? Any pin feathers coming in?

Hi, used Flubenvet Wormer. Seemed to have gone ok. That was c.4 weeks ago now.
Crop wholly empty as not eating :(
Drinking very very little....
Feathers all looking cool, no nasal discharge, no respiratory issues.
Definitely feels like a stomach or egg issue, but no clue more than that.
This is the downside of it, the fun is great, this is bleak.

What do you mean definitely feels like stomach or egg issue?
Do you note fluid or bloat in the abdomen below the vent between her legs?
Hi no just a general feeling but wholly not based on science or logic Just based on the diarrhea but could be wholly wrong ? Clutching at anything

Not sure its E. coli as that sounds very contagious and her co-chicken shows no signs of anything untoward.

She is very lethargic, tired, eating very little. Have noticed some feathers now missing on the breast and the tail has been white for a few days now, because of the diarhea, we're thinking to prune tomorrow, never done that before. Talking of feathers missing on breast, chicken has been putting head down between 2 front legs and reaching back, as if to reach breast, but can't see what's it trying to do. Might be connected, might not.

Poop is very liquidy and not much of it, sometimes its rather dark green. Whilst not eating much and lethargic, its over a week now, since the mega-hot weather, so if it were meant to go, it would have by now, so there must be something to be done.

Now extremely listless and starting to tip onto her side. Have been feeding power drops and dissolved normal pellets via syringe. Feeding quite easy as she not much resistant, no energy, but feels like she on a slow decline. Have seen similar photos of the green poop around and various things like lice, mites, but can't see anything external. Does feel like the heatwave started something and she is not going to recover. Sad.
