Hi, I have a 2 year old golden laced chicken who has been sick since last Wednesday. She is barely moving and when she does she walks like a penguin. She is eating and pooping but she has lost a lot of weight. I have given her multiple epsom salt baths and initially kept her separated inside in a dog crate but put her back in her coop because she is happier there. Her condition has not gotten worse or better. Any ideas?

Probably egg binding. I can't give expert advice on this but I'd try searching other threads for answers. Sorry to disappoint! Hope this helps.

It sounds like she might be an internal layer. It can resemble egg binding, but you can try to rule that out by checking inside her vent an inch or two with a finger-- wear a disposable glove.) Egg yolk peritonitis, internal laying, and salpingitis are common related ailments in hens that age and older. The best thing is to try to keep her comfortable and get her to eat, and try giving her some vitamins and probiotics a few days a week. Antibiotics usually don't cure it, but some people try them just to help if there is infection. Try to keep her comfortable. If she is an internal layer, she may live a few weeks or a couple of years. Just be prepared to put her down if she appears to be suffering. A vet can help with a diagnosis.
