I have a question for anyone who could help me. I have a silkie chicken that has been sick for at least a couple of months. I have read and tried everything and the poor thing still seems to be sick. At first I thought it was an upper respiratory problem, and treated it with many over the counter medications you get at Tractor Supply such as Vetrx, Liquamycin,Terramyacin, etc. It wasn't getting any better, so I took it to the vet and he said it was an upper respiratory problem and prescribed an injectible antibiotic and a wormer. As time went on it wasn't getting any better. From everything I read, it sounded like Coryza. (It had a terrible smelly yellow discharge coming from it's eyes and nostrils.) I tried Tylan 50 with no luck. I went back to the vet, because I had read a post that Sulfadimethoxine would help Coryza. I put this in it's drinking water for 12 days. But it didn't work either. I read another post on this site, that Ciprofloxacin eye drops would help. So I asked my vet to order it for me. The drops have cleared up the eyes a lot, but there is still some discharge, a bit more clear than yellow. I have been cleaning its eyes twice a day with saline and put the drops in twice a day also. The smell isn't as strong as it once was. It has lost a lot of weight and I've been feeding it meal worms, scratch and oatmeal. It won't eat eggs. It's not drinking a lot, so I have been using a dropper to give it water (with vinegar) l've noticed after I give it water with a dropper, it will start drinking on it's own, but when it does, there's a sound coming from it's stomach. Does anyone know what this could be? Have I given it too many antibiotics? It has yellow inside it's mouth one day and then it seems like the next day, it's gone. Right now, it''s back. It also walks funny (picks it's legs up high to walk) and when it eats, it seems like it has a hard time seeing it's food. It was sneezing, but I haven't heard it sneeze recently. If this is Coryza, does it take a long time to go away? Am I doing something wrong? Have I over treated the poor thing? Is the sound in it's stomach something else starting up? Any advice or comments would be appreciated. I have attached a picture of the yellow discharge from eyes before using the eye drops and I have also attached a picture the yellow in it's throat. 20180202_064117.jpg 20180207_221837.jpg

Unfortunately that looks like canker. It’s spread usually by wild birds such as pigeons. It’s a bunch of yellow cheesy sores that spread down the throat and into the respiratory system, eventually killing the bird. Luckily if caught early enough, it can be treated. My hen had one sore and I worked to keep treating it and eventually it went away. Swab diluted oregano oil on the canker and maybe even some VetRx. Put some vinegar in their water to help prevent and treat. I hope you are able to clear this up! I can get more info on it tomorrow from my chicken health book. Good luck!
