I have an 8 week old California white. Yesterday she was laying in a corner. I got her up she ate and did go outside but this morning she was laying on the ground, lethargic and her eyes close and open. How can I help her? I' going to try soaking her backside as I do see some poo stuck to her feathers.

Did you check her for lice or mites? If that's the problem I would give her iron rich food or molasses in water to try to revive her levels, bathe her to get off any large quantities of lice or mites and then dust her. Check the dusts to see how old the chickens must be in order to dust them since she is so young. I'm sorry to hear that she's sick. Hopefully she gets better soon.

For that age and symptoms coccidiosis should be considered (it does not always present with bloody droppings, sometimes just runny or mucosy). Sitting around fluffed up or lethargy are common symptoms. If you have a vet that will do a fecal float test I would do that. If not, with no other symptoms I would get some Corid and treat asap. It's available at most feed stores in either liquid or powder form, either will work, usually in the livestock/cattle section. If it is not coccidiosis the treatment won't do harm, if it is coccidiosis then starting treatment quickly is important. Use the severe outbreak dose, chart follows:
Do not give vitamins containing thiamine (B1) during treatment as it may reduce the effectiveness of the medication. After treatment is complete giving a vitamin supplement containing thiamine, and some probiotics is a good idea.

I did check for lice/mites and didn' see anything. But will check to dust her anyway if able for her age. I cleaned her backside and she is clear now. She has since gotten up, moved around and had runny poo. I will medicate her with corid especially if it can' hurt. Thanks for all the help
