sick chicken

Is she molting? It is good that she is going out and walking around more, but it sounds like she might have a reproductive disorder. That could make her feel uncomfortable and not eat. You could take her aside and try to feed her some egg or tuna, and a favorite treat. Many chickens like wet chicken feed mixed with a little plain yogurt or cottage cheese.

She is in molt. I did bring down some yogurt this morning. She was not interested. I held out some seed in my hand for her and she was not interested in that either.

Thanks for all of the responses! She is more mobile today; even more than yesterday. She's not really eating though. She still does not feel eggbound, but she is keeping her tail down. I checked her vent. It is clean, yet very pale. She is kind of keeping herself away from the other girls.
Molting will do it. Some of mine go off their feed, put themselves to bed early, it must be pretty miserable for them :(

I read at least 4 chicken books including the Damerow book before I got chickens. But I will have to say that I have learned more here, and I learn a lot when people share information from their vets or when they share lab reports and necropsy results. If you go up to the top of the page and click on Forums, you will see a whole list of places to visit. Also under Articles, you will find the learning center with good articles.
