More than a month ago one of my chickens seemed very sick. She was having trouble standing up and was very lethargic. I took her to the vet and the vet found nothing wrong except noted she seemed underweight. She suspected it could be cancer and failure to thrive because of cancer. She sent me home with antibiotics and anti inflammatory meds. I gave these meds only one day because she seemed much better the next day. She continued to do better and the reason she couldn’t walk and was so lethargic remained a mystery. A couple weeks later I noticed her comb was a strange color. I did a little research and concluded that she had frostbite and that was why she couldn’t walk before. This seemed very strange because I live in Huntington Beach Ca. Well, she did in fact end up losing the tips of her comb and a large piece in the middle. She seemed fine until a few days ago when I noticed one of her toes is completely turned around backward like a u. Since noticing g this she is distancing herself from the other chicken, sitting down a lot, not getting off of her perch in the morning and not really eating. Should I try to splint her toe or take her to the vet? Could this broken toe be causing her enough pain to stop eating? She does walk on it without limping but just isn’t waking much. Any advice?
