I am only three months into having chickens and so afraid of losing one!

One of our two year old girls has been acting off. She’s not eating their feed, but when we let them out for free range time she is eating grass and bugs.

She’s a bit mopey but I wouldn’t say lethargic. Two days ago she was keeping herself hidden under their coop and not drinking, so we isolated her for 24 hours, and she drank water and a mix of water with probiotics and electrolytes added.

She has been losing feathers since before we got her (previous people had to move and couldn’t take chickens). We did recently treat all four girls and the coop with diatomaceous earth. No sign of lice or mites.
She’s just kind of standing and sitting around. Not scratching, not staying near the other girls as normal.
Eyes are bright, color is good.
She hasn’t laid eggs in several weeks.
Help?

It sounds like she is possibly in molt, and they may be more aloof and may eat less. If would offer her some bits of scrambled egg, tuna, and occasional sunflower seed kernels for some high protein treats in moderation. My hens are doing the same things. Think about worming her with Valbazen or SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer as well in case she has worms. Check her crop early in the morning to make sure if it is empty overnight. If it is full and hard, or puffy, she might be suffering from a crop disorder.
