Good morning all!

I have a chicken here called Henrietta. She is pretty much a domestic chicken now after being attacked by rats around 20 months ago so she has her own little house away from the others. She is well cared for.

Over the past few days she has slowly got considerably ill and most of the time now she stands in a very different posture to her usual self, head slightly down and eyes closed. She is opening them ever so slightly if I touch her. A few noises but nothing like her normal self that is normally very sociable and pecking lots.

Does anyone have any idea of what I can do or what this might be?

Morning
Has she been eating/drinking. What is her poop like?

She’s not really eating and drinks very little. I’ve not seen her poop for a couple of days but the last was very watery and white.

She’s very limp. Really want to get her better. She’s loved in the community here. Thanks for the reply.

It would be helpful If you could post pictures of her poop to rule out worms, coccidiosis or anything else. Any smells coming from her mouth? How are her eyes when open? Any discharge or bubbles?

Thanks. I’m waiting until she poos then will get a picture. She normally is a very messy girl so hopefully won’t be long. I just put some water in front of her and she drank which is good but she definitely isn’t well, she’s not really moving much…

Also have you checked for mites? Or is there something she could of eaten that hasn’t agreed with her?

You need to think about where she's been, what she's been scratching up and eating, including wild berries and compost material. Insecticides and other possible toxic exposure. Egg laying? Has she had any soft eggs?

Has she been wormed? Have you smelled her feed for spoilage? Have you checked her over for injuries that may be infected?

Information and lots of it, is what we need to help. But if you have an antibiotic on hand such as amoxicillin, I would start her on it right away.
