Hey! So I have a hen, about to be three years old in May. She’s acting lethargic, walking slowly and sort of hunched, and she is having diarrhea clump against her vent and feathers. The others aren’t picking on her, but my hen is isolating herself from the others. I can smell the diarrhea on her even from several feet away, and I believe she’s stopped laying. Also, she spends a lot of time laying in the yard or in the run. Is she sick with anything treatable? Can the others get it? Is she just in the process of dying? I have attached photos and a video of her movement.

For whatever reason, the site is not letting me post a video. But she walks with her head hunched down, sorta puffed out, and very, very slow walking movement. Also, when I reach down towards her, she doesn’t move or attempt to get away at all, nor does she squat.

To post a video upload it to youtube then post the link here. Has anything changed recently? Feed, snacks, etc? I'd clean her up in an epsom salt bath and take a good look at her vent. If it's chilly where you are you can give her a blow dry after her bath.

We’re in Alabama so it’s already warmed up here. No, we haven’t had any changes in feed or anything. I noticed on Monday that she had some diarrhea so I washed it off with water, thinking that would be the end of it. But now the diarrhea seems to have gotten worse.

What will I be looking for when checking her vent?

Could it possibly be vent gleet?
