I have a white jersey hen that has been acting very lethargic today and when she makes noise it is almost like she is choking. I looked down her throat and could not see anything. also when i held her by her feet and rubbed her chest/neck food and saliva came out. I have never see a chicken do that. I did feel around her stomach and did not feel bloated or anything.
Any help?

she is having some problems with her crop may be
and you should do a crop flush
I have it posted on the board here under crop flush

after the flush of three times in a row
do not feed her for 24 hrs
and then for a week twice a day feed her
some bread soaked in milk
only

she needs to get cleaned crop so she can swallow again

any questions email me

so i felt around her crop really well and it feels empty. also her breathing is kinda ragged. going to go check bird flu symtoms

just c hecked. stuff only comes out when rubed and it is mostly clear.

This late in the evening, her crop should be full. If she is not eating, something is wrong. I don't have experience with sour or impacted crops, but i would do a search if i were you, and hopefully someone with more experience will jump in and give you better advice.

Glenda may be right about her crop.

Can you feel anything in her crop at all? Maybe something is stuck in there?

Perhaps gapeworm? That can cause a "choking" situation. I'm just guessing...

Otherwise, she could just be overheated, drinking a LOT (thus the liquid) and not eating much (thus the not much food in the crop). How hot is it there, and could you find a cooler area for her and see if she bounces back?
