Sick chicken

Remember that wazine only kills roundworms... Look up worming info from dawg53. He gives the best advice!

My chicken that had coccidiosis had no bloody poop either. Just a yellowish color. But she was definitely drinking like crazy and was listless the rest of them time.

There are so many possibilities as to what it could be, it's hard to know where to start sometimes. Your probably doing the best thing for her right now in keeping her hydrated, warm and rested. Maybe see if some scrambled or hard boiled egg will tempt her to eat some.

An avian vet could tell you what's wrong but getting to the exactly diagnosis is a lot of $$, I've tried that! Good luck with her, hope she perks up.

I'm ordering Ivermectin to reworm them in a couple weeks, and then using wazine again a little later on. The workers at the feed store were against using Ivermec for chickens, so I'll have to go the the other store the next city over, or see if I can find a full chicken wormer online. I think right now this is about all I can do, I'll just see how she is. Heck, she might just be feeling lousy because its been cold and rainy for weeks, and doesn't have the energy to walk.

Ok quick question, her comb is a lot darker then this afternoon, and she can stand/ hobble by herself. Do you think I should place her back in the big coop? She won't be able to roost, but I was going to make a nest on the floof for her. I just hate her being alone all night...

Personally, I'd keep her inside, in a quiet, warm, dark environment. You can put a small stuffed animal and maybe even a mirror in with her. I would worry that the others might pick at her. Also, you want her in a dark place to discourage her body from laying.

I just left her in the area I had her in for tonight. If if was up to me, she would be inside, but thats not an option. She is in the outdoor brooder pen in the coop. When I went out there, she was talking to the other chickens, so tomorrow if it is nice enough, I'll sit her outside in the run for a little bit. Shes drinking on her own now, so that it good I guess.

I'm not going to get excited though...

i've been following your thread. i don't have hardly any experience so can't really be of help. in my opinion, i would try to put her back in the coop w/the others at the earliest opportunity to prevent her from becoming a stranger to them. i had a girl get slightly wounded, but very traumatized nearly to the point of death. she was in such shock she couldn't stand, walk, eat or drink. i put her in the coop w/the others in a nest box with a heat lamp.
the others took turns laying w/her, talking to her, & generally supported her. i didn't observe any pecking at all. she pulled through & is fine & still an integral part of the flock.
this is just another perspective, again, i know very little about chickens.
good luck with her.

I think that is a good plan. She will be more at ease if she can talk to her friends. I didn't have any problems with my girls pecking my sick bird either but it's a good idea to watch just in case. Mine did the same as bj taylor's, a couple of them took turns sitting with the bird that wasn't well. Chickens, you just never know, they can be little terrors or they can be really sweet! I hope your girl gets better.

Just another update: Its beautiful outside today, so I've been going out every 2-3 hours and putting her in the run for 10-15 minutes. She won't poo in her pen, so This is the only time she will go. Her stool is getting a lot harder throughout the day too. I still have not seen her eat, so I gave her a scrambled egg and she loved it, gobbled it right up. She is drinking on her own too.

When outside, she can almost walk straight, just a little wobbly here and there. She will stand for a few minutes, walk around, and then lay down. I'm hoping this is a good sign that her energy is coming back. She even tried to go after a potato bug, but on of the other girls got it. I can't keep her out there by herself, because the rooster keeps trying to mount her and one of the hens keep pulling out her feathers.
