Hi, guys, a friend just called and she lost a chicken last night. Said she had fluid from nose and mouth and labored breathing. What should she treat the rest of the flock with?

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! sorry about the sick birds, hope you are able to get help in the Emergencies forum.

It's pretty difficult to diagnose a bird over the internet. You can't examine them and their symptoms are not enough to point to just one illness. If you post in full detail at
"emergencies, diseases, injuries, cures," thread someone may be able to suggest treatment and dosage. They need to know if she is eating, drinking, acting normal aside from her symptoms. Is she active with the others or does she just sleep or stay somewhere alone? Does her poop seem normal? How long has she been ill?

Thanks for the replies, I know I didn't give much info to go on, but as it wasn't my bird that's all I had. I did get a response in emergencies with a great link to read, thanks to that person. Also, thank you for the welcomes to the sight, I'm glad to be here and have this resource. I live in south Texas, I was raised around chickens my whole life, but just recently have my own flock. I have 22 girls of barred rocks, Cochins, brahmas, marans, and wyandots. I have a wonderful husband who built me an awesome coop and has come to enjoy the girls as much as I do. I even caught him hunting grub worms for them the other day. Anyway, thanks everyone and look forward to the interaction with y'all
