Hi,
Yesterday I gave my chickens a bowl of old strawberries. They ate them all, but when I went to shut them in for the night they all seemed sluggish and one was making slightly distressed noises. Should this be something to be worried about?
They're better this morning, though all have slightly bloated crops.
Any ideas?
I posted a thread last night about this and didn't get any answers.

I have same concerns & questions as CurlyQuail. If there was no grit provided they wouldn't have been able to properly digest the strawberries overnight and if the strawberries were old & moldy then there's possibility that you may have sickened them.

If they were old, that wasn’t a good thing to give them. They can eat scraps, but not ones gone bad.

Yes. You don't ever want to feed your chickens something that you wouldn't eat yourself. Maybe try providing them with some fresh cut garlic cloves (cut the sprout & root tips off) provide plenty of fresh drinking water, maybe add some electrolites to their drinking water if need be and they should be okay!

Seeds especially, sometimes you need to be cautious cause some seeds contain small amounts of cyanide or other toxicities. 🍎 seeds & raw/uncooked garden beans for instance
