I noticed my chickens have some oozing coming from the vent. It looks like multiple chickens have this symptom then I just picked one up to walk and one of them looks like it has some blood and the other one has little bugs around the vent. What could this be?

Do you have any pictures? How old are your chickens? Could there be some vent pecking going on? Little bugs could be lice or mites. What color are they? Are they longish and very fast? Or slow and more oval? Permethrin garden dust from a feed store can treat them. Put it in a sock and dust each chickens’ skin once, and again in 7 days.

I noticed them when I was inspecting the vent. They looked like very tiny orange/red bugs.
The chickens are 6-7 months old

This is one of the silkies butts .

Welcome to BYC. Is it hot there? Are they drinking a lot of water due to increased thirst? Worming with Valbazen or SafeGuard might be good, or you could ask your vet to do a fecal float on some fresh dropping. It sounds like lice. Once you treat the chickens, you probably will need to ematy the coop bedding far away. Spray the coop, nest boxes, and roosts with permethrin spray, then add new bedding.

Here are some pics of the bugs. One chick is really bad but I don’t see them in the coop.
What are they? Live or mites?
