Sick chickens!

Hello. Three days ago we found one of our chickens laying down, unable to walk. She had pale, watery droppings. No obvious respiratory distress until the very end when gasping for breath right before she died. She died within a matter of hours. This morning we discovered another chicken is sick with the exact same symptoms although not yet as severe. We isolated each chicken as soon as we saw signs of illness. Any input is appreciated. We love our chickens and are very worried.

thank you for your reply. They eat Purina layer feed plus vegetable odds and ends. We are also wondering about mold or toxic substance. We recently gutted an old guest house to use for the chicken coop.

It could be mold since more than one is coming down with it.
