I have a cockitiel that is a retired breeder. she has stopped l;aying eggs all together a year or so ago, we have had the pair for 4 years and her age was unknow. She's kept in a parrot cage and eats zupreeme, cockatiel seeds w/o black sunflower seeds and sunflower seeds I givew seperate as a treat, they eat egg but not so fond of fresh foods but I try, they also have a mineral block and they get a bit of shells. Just now when I fed them I discovered my girl not being able to control her head and after I took her out she hasn't called to him which they normally do, she has tried to eat, which is why I am so worried, she couldn't and on my bed now does rolls sometimes, Please help, I can't bring her to a vet because local vets who deal with birds are not open, and I have my kids getting ready for bed. Can birds have strokes or is this a type of illness, she looks healthy otherthen head bobbing!

This morning befor school i made sure she ate and drank, she even peeped 2 times, when I arrived home from school she had passed away. Her partner is beside himself, homefully the stress desn't kill him too!

Any possibility of getting into moldy food? I would give her some poultry vitamin, keep her in a dark area and see if it continues. If she has gotten into moldy feed then she may need a molasses flush.

She is 100% caged as they couple really hates being outside of thier cage( a parrot cage that they came with), I wonder if the seed is off?

google cockateil head bobbing sounds like it's normal behavior. I remember when I had a teil it bobbed it's head often. What makes you think, it is sick?

It's a can't hold my head up kind of bob( like her head is too heavy to control), when trying to eat her head shakes too much and to top it off she can't talk, He was singing a cat whisle like normal( who in the world tought him that!) and she couldn't reply, she always does,, it's like she forget who he is and is biting him and me when we her close she never bites and she tells Romeo to stop when he tries, I had put her in a safe box but she was too stressed where she even breathed heavy. We have had the pair for 4 years never ever any health issue, so IDK?

Sorry, I'd keep her quiet and warm and plan a vet trip first thing in the morning. And to answer your first question. Yes teils can have strokes, but I'm not sure this is it. Birds are susceptible to gasses. Any teflon cooking going on? Glue or solvents being used?

Good luck

This weekend had been an outside weekend so we barely scubbed the house.usually I used organic products but thanks to chickens and our puppy I have started to wash the floors with water and bleach. We rarely cook on teflon, I like stainless steal or cast iron. This weekend has been a eat quick meals like salads, bbq ect, not much cooking either as I have been outside doing chores the whole weekend.

Well that's good.

Hope it's nothing, and your teil is fine.

Imp- I'm on vacation for a while so I'll be checking back. Fingers crossed.

She is still head bobbibf but now has little aim when tring to bite me. I am looking for an avain vet so far the phone book search has come up with nothing good, I can't go out of town today as I have a big test at school today, the closest avian/exotic vet I have found is 2+ hours away! Why do people think exotic is a ferret and rabbit, honestly that's what is listed under exotic in the closest clinic!
