I know there is probably a thread somewhere for this but it's late and I cant find it. While working I found a duck on the side of the road she (I think it's a she) is a Peakin duck and I thought she was hit by a car. Her flight feathers were tore off and all the others extremely messed up. I lost 4 of the same ducks this fall and always wanted a second chance, but when I took her to the vet she said that the swelling on the tops of her legs wasn't trama but an illness like a microplasma illness. She said it wasn't cureable but gave an antibiotic to help her breathing. She's a real sweat heart and gets around the yard great but she's super lonely (trying to cuddle with the golden reachreaver that wants nothing to do with her) and I was curious if she would infect other ducks or if I could get her some friends. If anyone has been through this situation and could help that would mean the world to me.

I looked it up and there is possibility of being contagious so I would finish the round of antibiotics first before introducing more ducks. Thank goodness you found her and I hope she responds to the medication. when reading I found that walking pneumonia is bacterial and responds to antibiotics I can vouch for that. so hopefully she has a good chance now that your giving her TLC, and please be careful with her and your dog, prey drives can get ducks killed. Good feed , poultry vitamins in her drinking water, and lots of love hopefully will get her back to health soon, Spend as much time as you can with her because being a flock animal I am sure she is lonely. if you keep her in a coop or house for ducks, you might get her a mirror with out sharp edges so she can look at herself it may help till you can get her some friends.

Thanks so much. The golden reachreaver is ancient and a sweet heart so know worries there she's just too loud for him and I let her out side then put her up at night. She's doing a lot better than she was and I'd really like to try and get another flock that would make her and my day

I am so glad she is responding to the meds and TLC. if you have a shelter or rescues in your area maybe check into them and see if they have any ducks for adoption.

I would ask the vet first before introducing any more ducks. Your first post did say the meds were to help her breathing, but the illness was not cureable.
