My duck that was fine when I put her to bed last night can't walk this morning...her feet are splayed and she is scooting around on her stomach. I brought her in the house and have her in the bathroom with a bowl of water (which she drank quite a bit, but coughed some). It also looks like there is a little dried blood on her underbelly where the egg would come out of. Don't think she's laid any in a few days (she doesn't lay real regular).

I read about giving epsom salt in the water...but how much salt to how much water? Any other suggestions?

Do you think she ate something toxic? that would be the reason to give Epsom salt. to flush out the toxin. I'd put her in a tub of warm water and let her float around for a while, stay with her to make sure she stays in the tub. If she is egg bound and sounds more like that than botulism she may relax enough to lay the egg. when the water cools put her in a quiet place with old clean towels under her and let her rest then try again with warm bath water, The egg maybe pressing on a nerve is the reason she can't stand and walk. Keep us updated on progress.

thanks...I'm trying the warm water now and will let you know

YEAH!!! The warm water worked and she layed the most bizarre looking egg...instead of oblong, it was totally round and bigger than her normal eggs...and it must have had to crack in order to come out (because it was all cracked). She's up and running around now.

Guess I'll take her off the layers feed...she's never had a problem in year's past, but I don't want it to reoccur

By the way she's the little black and white one in my photo...yes, in the house on the dog bed :-)

That is such great news!!! She does need the extra calcium while laying though so make sure she gets it by Oyster shell and good greens like chopped kale, and Dandelion greens.
