Hi,
I recently got a couple of call ducklings and one of them is not looking so good. From the first day he was smaller than the rest. the third day I noticed him breathing heavy, opening and closing his mouth with every breath, he was still moving fine though. Now today, the fourth, he can barely walk, he can only hold his head up for a few seconds, and his nose is almost complete clogged.
please help thanks.
1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
Call Duck, 1 week old, half the weight of his siblings.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
heavy breathing, opening and closing beak, clogged nares, weak legs, bad balance, can’t barely hold head up.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
2 days
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
No
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
Wet pine shavings, over heating? I keep an infrared 100w about a foot above them in a 72ish degrees room.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
Normal chick feed
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
not a lot of poop, mostly white and pasty
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
None yet
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Hope to treat it by myself.
