Sick Factory meat bird ended up in our vegetarian home - help!

Wow... there are a lot of vegans (except of our own eggs) in this forum!! It's so uplifting!

heidibeidi -- e-mail Colin at [email protected] and he will help you. Also, surf the internet to see if there are any farm sanctuaries in your area, like the othe post suggested. Maybe you can find a forever home for this chicken.

The one we rescued ended up being a very handsome rooster. Since we cannot keep roosters we found him a forever home. He is around 7 months old now and they said he's doing great.

Even if yours doesn't make it, he/she will know what is to be loved and taken care of. It's a great thing that this chicken won't go through the horrors of a slaughterhouse.

Keep us posted!

Great advice right here and kudos to you for helping this chicken. Please stick around so we can hear how this turns out.

Maybe you could get help determining if she is an actual meat bird, that might help you determine her age and stuff since they grow so fast. Give her a bath for sure. My chicken BB had to be bathed several times and she barely noticed. But she loooooved drying next to our woodstove. She even got in "dustbath position". She laid on her side with her legs out in happiness while being fed nuts. Spoiled bugger, she was when she was sick!!

If you can't get to a feed store you can probably pick up some electrolytes at the local grocery store until you can get to the feed store. The diahrea could be from dehydration. Make sure you wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap before touching your other flock! Respiratory issues are highly contagious. Make her warm and comfy and try to get a little food in her. Perhaps post a photo if you want help identifying some issues or what she is.

Well, today I have someone from a local farm sanctuary coming to the house to meet Billina! Yeah! Hopefully we can get her on some antibiotics and eventually she can move out there for a happy little chicken life.

I tried to upload a picture of her, not sure if it worked though!

and good to hear she might have a safe and peaceful place to live out her days.

Billina just had her first bath! She was surprisingly calm through the whole thing. Afterwards I was blow drying her so she wouldn't get cold and she did the cutest thing . . . she crawled up in my lap and laid down. My daughters helped, it was a nice experience for all.

It's amazing how sweet animals can be when they have only known cruelty.

Still trying to figure out how to put up pictures, but I can promise she is much better looking now!!
