Hello! So I have just found a flicker woodpecker that seems sick. It has pasty butt ,is acting very tired, and not eating or drinking but I think that’s just because it’s in shock. We cleaned off his bum and gave it some medicine that’s supposed to be good for about any bird if they’re sick. There’s also a towel over his cage to calm him. I also think he’s younger. Must’ve fledged a while ago but when he was squawking, there is no parents around. I’m not sure if this is normal or not but he’s definitely sick and may have been abandoned. Any help on what to do would be very appreciated. Please no criticism. I already know about the migratory bird treaty act and I’m not going to keep him. I just want to let him get well.

Please help! Thank you!

Good job for rescuing it! I hope he feels better!❤️

It most likely just left the nest. Since they poop in the nest they get it stuck on them. When they first leave they can seem disoriented because all they have ever seen is their nest. They also tend to be tired from trying to fly on their own for the first time because they are using muscles that they haven’t used before.

Ok so I heard him do a really loud cry and he was up and much more alert so he thought maybe it was time for him to be freed so I held him and open my hand. He flew and immediately hit the ground and did a full somersault. what should I do to help this bird?
