one of my guineas is acting weak & lethargic.....it is not able to fly up into the tree to roost, since it's real easy to catch, I have been putting it up into the lower branches of the tree the rest of the birds are roosting in...it stays off by itself a lot....it eats for a few seconds, stops & falls asleep, sometimes it appears to have trouble swallowing....it has a spot on it's back that is missing feathers & one of it's eyes keeps getting stuck shut and I've been having to help it get it open

this is one of the six I am working to integrate into my orginal nine....the integration seems to be going well, they are all eating & roosting together, but still stay kind of separate when out foraging....when one alarms, they all run together & head for cover

I suspect this is part of the integration process....if so, what can I give the bird to help it be more energetic

Your guinea is definitely sick. It is not part of the integration process. I would separate the sick one in case whatever is wrong with it is communicable.

You could try treating it with Corid in case it is coccidiosis. If it is not coccidiosis, the Corid will not hurt it.

Good luck.

thanks for replying....I haven't had a chance to get any corid yet, but the bird seems to be doing better today....I still had to put it in the tree last nite, but it was up and waiting to be fed before the others got off the roost this morning, so, I went ahead and set the feeder out, that way it got a head start on eating, it ate more today & didn't seem to fall asleep as often while it was trying to eat....it also fluffed up at me for the first time, since I noticed it was sick, when I got close to it and it seems to be a little more active, but still not keeping to close to the rest of the birds....I don't really have a good place to put it to keep it away from the others or I would do that....I'll just continue to watch it & get some corid to give it....

update....something is wrong with the sick birds eye....it has a white dot in the center of it....that's the same eye that kept getting stuck shut....

Vetericyn makes an eyewash that you can use in its eye. If not you can use a standard eyewash (for people) to clean it carefully. It is possible that the eye problem was caused by a peck from one of the others or an accidental scratch from running through the weeds.
