Sick Hamburgh! WHAT'S WRONG???

Lolly...please describe his droppings..color and consistency..

I see you are in Aus..
my guess is that he had cocci. (pale comb, cold feet)
cocci tends to be common in the heat..especially if there are wet areas.
and if wild birds are coming around..they can carry it.

slight possibility that he had a heart condition..

sorry you lost your roo.

keep a close eye on your other chickens..and the droppings..
any runny tan or bloody droppings..
get some Sulfaquinn right away.
you can get it at your feed supply.

Thank you sammi and maymiegirl. I never really got to look at his droppings as it all happened to quickly. I examined his vent but it was all clean. No residual droppings. I have kept a close eye on my other chickens and so far all is good. I will be worming them over the weekend and going to my local feed supply place as well to see what they suggest giving to them to boost them up a bit.

I have let them free range alot since my roo died to make sure they are covering different ground. And I have been doin alot of runnin and yellin at the scrub turkeys.

There seems to be only 1 that is being very persistant about hanging around.

Thanks again for all you advice and I will be following through on it this weekend. I got a lot better of a repsonse from you guys than I did from my local australian poultry forum so BIG THUMBS UP to you all.

Have a feel around both side of his keel, if there's no meat whatsoever it could be cocci.

The other thing you got to look out for with your chooks this time of the year is mite and worm, both can cause the paleness, lethargy and sudden death.

Sorry about your rooster, hamburg! This is a great hobby but when things like this happen it can be heart wrenching. I guess it's all trial and error. Thank God there are more experience folks on here that do try and help. Good luck in the future! Sorry again for your loss!
