Sick Hen Huge Lump on Cheek

I didn't know that, I simply popped it with an 18 AWG needle and pushed out the liquid. I was afraid to make a big cut that wouldn't stop bleeding but maybe I need to try that next.

Sad story over. I culled her

The lump was as big as ever and she was gasping to breath. Sucked.

Did you cut it up after culling? That way you could have seen what caused it. Sorry you had to cull.

No, the culling was tough enough, I'm not ready for autopsies just yet. She was my first cull.

Sorry to hear, JohnHenry. I had read your original post and just put it in the back of my mind to check back later and expected to read that it just just a cyst, healed up nicely, etc. My heart sank when I read that you had to cull her. Again, sorry to hear.

Thanks for all the help and concern. I still think about her and wonder what I could have done. My remaining four hens now seem to not want to free range as much. Chubby was the dominant hen.
