Kale Chips
Songster
Hello! My 2-3 year old Golden Comet chicken has been acting weird lately and I was hoping for a diagnosis. It started by finding a fart egg two days in a row, and then finding an egg with a double shell (kind of). She was standing in the corner of the coop and was pretty low-energy for a day or two, and when I fed them she came out. She pretended like she was going to eat but never took a bite, but did have some sips of water. The past couple of days she has been the queen of the nest, and today the other chickens finally gave up and started a new nest on the other side of the coop. She is pretty fluffy and puffed up, and has clearly nestled into the shavings and made a cozy little spot.
I don't know if she has lost/gained weight, as I don't really have a baseline for that. She *looks* healthy from the outside, but is low energy and sits on the nest or stands still all day.
A few minutes ago I went out and offered her some cracked corn, after waving it around her face for a few seconds, she finally "realized" that I was there and gently nibbled the kernels. She ate them all but didn't make cooing noises or make much movement.
Is there anything I can do for her? Is she broody or sick? I'm speculating a possible egg-laying/reproductive issue since we had the fart eggs and the double-shelled egg, but I'm not sure.
Thank you for your help!
