One of our hens has been laying soft shells for a week. She was still laying soft shells as of day before yesterday, and now she hasn't laid. We have been giving her calcium citrate with vitamin D3 for 7 days, and she has had not had any improvement. I found her in the run today looking very sickly puffed out and pale looking. She was given an epson salt bath. After that she was put in our little bathroom in the house, and she went poop. It doesn't look right to me..any advice? 😞

I would not bathe or soak her, since it could push her over the edge while she is so sick and weak. How old is your hen? How much calcium have you been giving? 300-600 mg daily is a good dosage. The yellow in her dropping could be a sign of reproductive infection or water belly/ascites. Does she have any enlargement of her lower belly below her vent? Is her crop emptying overnight? Can you mix some watery chicken feed and a little scrambled egg to offer her?

She laid a soft shell egg just a little bit ago, and started eating her wet mash like she was very hungry! She will be a year old next month! We started with 300mg of calcium, but upped to 600 on day 5. Her belly is not enlarged. I will double check later. At least she is eating good now! I hope she stays that way!
